The Vatican Releases 7 New Sins

After 1,500 years the Vatican has released its list of the seven deadly sins for the 21st century.

The list comes as Pope Benedict XVI lashed out against the modern "secularized world" and its sensibilities when it comes to sin.

The new sins...

1. "Bioethical" violations such as birth control

2. "Morally dubious'' experiments such as stem cell research

3. "Drug abuse"

4. "Polluting the environment"

5. "Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor"

6. "Excessive wealth"

7. "Creating poverty"

Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti, the Vatican's number-two official for sins and penance, told L'Osservatore Romano that he saw bioethics as posing the greatest risks for the human soul.

Catholicism has two basic types of sin: Venial, which are relatively less important and forgivable, and mortal.
Mortal sin can include acts like abortion and murder, although the church doesn't keep a well-defined list.
Mortal sins can cause a person to go to Hell unless confessed to a priest, who then absolves the sinner in God's name.

What's your thoughts?

Iraq invasion would be considered a mortal sin?
by elizabeth on 11th Mar, 2008
I wonder if the Iraq invasion would be considered a mortal sin - the Bible speaks about war mongers. Bush who claims to be a Christian and on a mission might want to read that part of the Bible and repent.

Science will destroy faith and it's own work...
by George h. on 11th Mar, 2008
Has science gone too far? Is science trying to defeat nature. Is science taking away faith? My opinion yes. Trying to extend life, with quality of life at the back ground. Has mankind done enough to destroy nature. Yes, technology is destroying, peace, compassion, respect, the art of giving (the secrets to happiness). Communication has become bit and bytes. not heart and soul. Work longer rush here rush their, no time to smile at each other, no time to care, finding happiness in material things take don't even matter. Big homes that keep families farther apart. Trying to be first, why we are all going to pass on sooner or later. Why be in a rush? Then it won't matter. When it come down to it no science in the world is going to make you happy on your death bed. But having to say I spent time being good, helping people, giving to others respecting everybody for who they are, that is what will make you happy and successful. Not fighting against the laws of life. Religion and science the razors edge.Someday they will meet for the better. But until we look at both together, science will destroy faith and it's own work. Is already started.

Just for the record,
I am not of religious faith. I'm just a man that is finding happiness through faith in the goodness of mankind.

Health and happiness to all.

IRAQ invasion - SACRILEGE
by Ken Fernandes on 12th Mar, 2008
President George Bush and his croonies destroyed, God's Earth and His people in Iraq, only to plunder its natural resources.
Sacrilege is the violation or injurious treatment of a sacred object. In a less proper sense, any transgression against the virtue of religion would be a sacrilege. It can come in the form of irreverence to sacred persons, places, and things. When the sacrilegious offense is verbal, it is called blasphemy.
Thanks & Regards
Ken

Religion v/s Science
by K on 15th Mar, 2008
I thought not a blade of grass nor hair on our heads moves or falls without the permission of God?! If that is the case, the same should be for the thoughts and ideas that pop into our heads! Where do great ideas come from? Ideas that take mankind a step forward, maybe making a trip to the moon, discovering electricity and just evolving into the race we are now is a sin?! Or did God want us to come so far?
Religion is man made, but a true connection with god, comes from a clear conscious and a pure heart. Again that is subjective. So there is no black or white in terms of what is a sin, and what is not. There are always two sides to a coin, and where birth control is considered a sin, in countries like India, Africa, china, it is the need of the hour. The earth cannot support the population! So you don't want to control population, but pollution is now a sin! Less ppl less pollution...its all connected.

God's word is true.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 14th Aug, 2010
Dear friends,
This morning I would like to tell you what God has put in my heart. One thing we know for sure that God loves each one of us and also we know that like his Father Jesus also loves us. His ministry was to show the way to the people and lead them to repentance. While preaching Jesus made known to the people his God given authority and power of his word. He said.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”(Mathew 24:35)
And seven hundred years before Jesus, prophet Isaiah prophesied about the authority and power of his word saying.
“So is my word that goes out of my mouth; It will not return to me empty, but accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”(Isaiah 55:11)

If you read these two quotations which are given above, you will come to know that Jesus’ words are true and they are really making impact on the world. Gospel is being preached all over the world 24X7 and changing lives of millions of people. There are many other religious books but none can make such impact on people’s lives as compared to the Bible. I am amazed when I see the effect of his word on my life. It was in 1962 seventeen years before my conversion to Christianity, one person came to me with the gospel. He was our school peon when I was studying. He was talking about Jesus but nothing went to my head. Though my eyes were on him but my mind was wondering as to who gave him such knowledge that he could speak so fluently about Jesus. I sent him empty handed since I did not accept Jesus as my Savior.
Again in 1978 one person came to my house with the gospel and told me about Jesus. This time I gave patiently my ear to his each and every word. While discussing he just mentioned that I am a sinner. Though I did not like but still did not react. He too went empty handed. One day as I was sitting alone, those words that man had spoken came back to my mind and started thinking about the gospel. Being Catholic I knew Jesus and I followed him. But I didn’t knew much about Jesus. That man had told me to read the Bible. So in order to know more about Jesus I thought of reading the New Testament. Next day I managed to get one copy from the school library where I was teaching. As I went on, I found that whatever information I had about Jesus was too little. I was knowing only about his birth and death and nothing more. I kept reading for nearly ten months. Gospel became my favourite book. I never knew that the words spoken earlier by those two persons were still in my subconscious mind and were making tremendous effect on my life. One day as a family, when we were praying God convicted me of my sinful life. I did not delay but repented immediately and committed my life to Jesus. And accepted him as my Savior. God had to wait patiently for 16 years till his words which were spoken through two witnesses, were fulfilled. Because that was the only way I could save myself from sin and destruction of my soul. And now when I think about words spoken by Isaiah are true. Those very words have changed my life. First they changed my heart by bringing conviction in me and then in my mind by renewing it. And now after thirty one years of Christian life, my life is totally changed. His word has become my breath. Jesus lives in me. I breath Jesus, I smell Jesus, I hear Jesus and now I don’t live but Jesus lives in me. His words have done the work which God desired when those two men spoke to me. His words have not returned empty, but have accomplished what God desired and achieved the purpose for which God sent it. Hallelujah. Glory be to God.
