Prayers, Rosary help Brockton couple endure Mumbai terrorist attack

Prayers of family and friends and the rosary helped a Brockton couple endure a 15-hour ordeal waiting to be rescued from their room in the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, India, which came under siege from terrorists Nov. 26.

William and Geraldine Stadelmann were on their last day of a three-week tour of India, which included a visit to the tomb of St. Thomas the Apostle in the city of Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The following day, the couple was to depart with a smaller tour going to Nepal to see Mount Everest.

The India-leg of the trip concluded with an afternoon reception on the hotel’s ground floor for the tourists, many of whom William Stadelmann said stayed downstairs for dinner, while he and his

William and Geraldine Stadelmann are pictured in a snapshot from their November trip to India. The couple were guests at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, India when it came under siege by terrorists Nov. 26.

wife returned to their room to pack for their 4 a.m. departure for the airport.

“At the party we were all saying how safe we felt in India,” he said.

At or around 10 p.m. there was a loud explosion.

“I thought it was fireworks,” he said.

Next, came a call from the hotel security, who he said told him that there were gunmen in the hotel and he should turn off the lights, lock the door and open it for no one. For the next 15 hours, the couple stayed under their bed.

From under the bed, the couple could hear terrorists move down a hallway, pound on each door and use an explosive that sounded like grenade. “They would blow the door open and start shooting everyone inside.”

There was at least one gunman perched high over the atrium firing into the rooms and down upon the people running across the bottom of the atrium to escape the hotel.

With the sniper outside, he said his wife did not want to risk getting up and going to the bag with her rosary beads, so she used her knuckles to keep track, he said. “Of the 15 hours, my wife was saying the rosary for, I’d say, 14-and-a-half hours.

Meanwhile, Stadelmann said he used his laptop equipped with an international wireless Internet card to maintain contact with his family back home.

Beyond the explosions and the gunmen going door-to-door, the greatest danger to the couple was the fire, he said. “There were 1,000 rooms in the hotel, so I figured our chances were pretty good. But, the fire was really something. A fire will find you.”
Stadelmann opened the windows just a crack and he put wet towels at the bottom of the doors to block the smoke that filling the hotel, he said. To breathe, they covered their noses with wet towels, too.

Because their section of the hotel was constructed of concrete, he said he was confident the structure was sound, even when the roof of the atrium caught fire and its flaming pieces streamed down past their window.

When help arrived, it was a team of six Indian Army special forces soldiers dressed in black uniforms with black bandanas on their heads, he said. “They had everything, guns, knives and radios. They were the real deal.”

Along the way, the group had to walk past five or six dead bodies and at each one, Geraldine stopped to make the sign of the cross, he said. Of the more than 180 killed, one was a man from Australia the coupled befriended on the tour.

“The Indian people are wonderful,” he said. Many of the hotel staff risked their lives or were killed trying to help guests get to safety.

Stadelmann said those rosaries and the prayers of his friends and family back home were absolutely the reason they lived through the ordeal.

“We have a tremendous faith and we were getting prayers from all over the place,” he said.

Standing Strong in the Face of Adversity

Remember, Adversity is another way to measure the greatness of individuals. I never had a crisis that didn't make me stronger. ~Lou Holtz

Scripture:
Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."  Isaiah 30:20-21 (New International Version)

Adversity can be described as a series of unfortunate events.  Just when it seems that things are going right in your life, something can happen to change your perspective.  It can be something as small as failing a test or something so overwhelming like death that just rocks your world.

Sometimes when we are confronted with adverse situations, we may want to throw up our hands in surrender.  At other times, we just say “oh well” and keep on keeping on.  And then there will come times, when you want to give up and give in.  It is in those times when what we are made of, will surely be tested.

Whether you realize it or not, adversity in your lives is sometimes necessary for your spiritual development.  There will  be times when it becomes inevitable for us all to truly see just how strong the word of God is embedded in our everyday lives. Or, it may be a necessary process in order for us to move to the next level in our spiritual growth.

It is at those times that we must learn to depend on God even more than we already do.  The reality of most individuals is that when things are going well in our lives, we become content with where we are.  That is not where God necessarily wants us to be.  Being a part of the Body of Christ is being willing to be stretched so that we become more like Him and less like the world.

It is at times like these, that we must learn to Stand strong in the face of Adversity.

All Prayers, even little prayers, are always of help!!! ...at the right time.

"Say the Rosary every day...
Pray, pray a lot and offer sacrifices for sinners...
I'm Our Lady of the Rosary.
Only I will be able to help you.
...In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph."

Salvation is in only Jesus.(Acts 4:12)
by Sebastian D'Souza on 11th Dec, 2008
Dear Readers. With all respect and regards to our Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus I humbly thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for saving the life of Geraldine and William from that attack which took place in Mumbai. I am not averse to the rosary. But I am very careful when I pray. Bible says pray in the spirit. Every word I utter before God has power. Secondly Jesus says in Mathew chapter 6 and verse 7 "And when you pray , do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.. Verse 8 further says Do not be like them . So when my Lord says do not be like them, what I should do? I cannot afford to disobey the Lord and by doing it I do not want to commit sin. For Jesus has died for my sins and has given me eternal life. Thirdly I believe that Mary has no power else at Cana she would not have approached Jesus for a miracle. And when the disciples approached Mary. She knew that she has no power. She bluntly told them "Do what he(Jesus) says." (John 2:5) She did not say " I will do." And the disciples came back to Jesus. My dear brothers and sisters try to read bible and follow the bible. Fourthly when we say rosary we say "Holy Mary, mother of God." my dear friends just read those words carefully and you will come to know that whatever you are saying is a insult to God. For God has no father and no mother. He is supreme. He was before the creation of this universe. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. "(John 1:1) My dear brothers and sisters don't feel offended. Whatever I am saying is the word of God and not my own. That "Word" became flesh and made his dwelling among us, that's what John says in same chapter verse 14. Who became flesh? Word became flesh he mean to say that Jesus came in flesh. So let me repeat verse 1 from chapter 1 from John's Gospel. "In the beginning was Jesus(I am writing Jesus in place of Word) and Jesus was with God and Jesus was God." So Jesus was in this world before the creation of this world. Are you with me? And Jesus says. "I am Alpha and Omega" the beginning and the end. So my dear friends just think and try to understand lest you commit sin. Mary is the mother of Jesus but not of God. Mary was born two thousand and one hundred years back. We cannot give God's glory to anyone. Please please I beg of you'll, don't insult God lest you commit sin. That too against God. What a terrible thing it is to commit sin against living God. For God knows that people are doing it unknowingly and he will definitely forgive but he wants that people should realise and repent an stop saying it. Else that sin remains on everyone's head. I am sorry to say this. I used to say rosary but when I was convicted by God himself I stopped and asked God to forgive me with tears. My God was too gracious to forgive. And from that day I am cautious when I pray.Again in gospel of Mathew chapter 15 and verse 8 Jesus says. "These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." Verse 9 Jesus says. "They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." Rosary one will find nowhere in the bible. Now about Geraldine and Williams I know that God alone saved them. For our God has power. He knew their heart and though they did not ask but he came in right time and rescued them. Hallelujah. Glory to God and Glory to Jesus.

Miracles through the powerful intercession of Mother Mary and the devoution of the Holy Rosary

THE HAIL MARY OF A PROTESTANT
(This is A true story)

A little six-year-old Protestant boy had often heard his Catholic companions reciting the prayer 'Hail Mary.' He liked it so much that he copied it, memorized it and would recite it every day. 'Look, Mommy, what a beautiful prayer,' he said to his mother one day.

'Never again say it,' answered the mother. 'It is a superstitious prayer of Catholics who adore idols and think Mary a goddess. After all, she is a woman like any other. Come on, take this Bible and read it. It contains everything that we are bound to do and have to do.' From that day on the little boy discontinued his daily 'Hail Mary' and gave himself more time to reading the Bible instead.

One day, while reading the Gospel, he came across the passage about the Annunciation of the Angel to Our Lady. Full of joy, the little boy ran to his mother and said: 'Mommy, I have found the 'Hail Mary' in the Bible which says: 'Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women.' Why do you call it a superstitious prayer?'

On another occasion he found that beautiful Salutation of St. Elizabeth to the Virgin Mary and the wonderful canticle MAGNIFICAT in which Mary foretold that 'the generations would call her blessed.'

He said no more about it to his mother but started to recite the 'Hail Mary' every day as before. He felt pleasure in addressing those charming words to the Mother of Jesus, our Savior.

When he was fourteen, he one day heard a discussion on Our Lady among the members of his family. Every one said that Mary was a common woman like any other woman. The boy, after listening to their erroneous reasoning could not bear it any longer, and full of indignation, he interrupted them, saying:

'Mary is not like any other children of Adam, stained with sin. No! The Angel called her FULL OF GRACE AND BLESSED AMONGST WOMEN. Mary is the Mother of Jesus Christ and consequently Mother of God. There is no higher dignity to which a creature can be raised. The Gospel says that the generations will proclaim her blessed and you are trying to despise her and look down on her. Your spirit is not the spirit of the Gospel or of the Bible which you proclaim to be the foundation of the Christian religion.'

So deep was the impression which the boy's talk had made that his mother many times cried out sorrowfully: 'Oh my God! I fear that this son of mine will one day join the Catholic religion, the religion of Popes!' And indeed, not very long afterward, having made a serious study of both Protestantism and Catholicism, the boy found the latter to be the only true religion and embraced it and became one of its most ardent apostles.

Some time after his conversion, he met his married sister who rebuked him and said indignantly: 'You little know how much I love my children. Should any one of them desire to become a Catholic, I would sooner pierce his heart with a dagger than allow him to embrace the religion of the Popes!'

Her anger and temper were as furious as those of St. Paul before his conversion. However, she would change her ways, just as St. Paul did on his way to Damascus . It so happened that one of her sons fell dangerously ill and the doctors gave up hope of recovery. Her brother then approached her and spoke to her affectionately, saying: 'My dear sister, you naturally wish to have your child cured. Very well, then, do what I ask you to do. Follow me, let us pray one 'Hail Mary' and promise God that, if your son recovers his health, you would seriously study the Catholic doctrine, and should you come to the conclusion that Catholicism is the only true religion, you would embrace it no matter what the sacrifices may be.'

His sister was somewhat reluctant at the beginning, but as she wished for her son's recovery, she accepted her brother's proposal and recited the 'Hail Mary' together with him. The next day her son was completely cured. The mother fulfilled her promise and she studied the Catholic doctrine. After long preparation she received Baptism together with her whole family, thanking her brother for being an apostle to her.

The story was related during a sermon given by the Rev. Fr. Tuckwell. 'Brethren,' he went on and said, 'the boy who became a Catholic and converted his sister to Catholicism dedicated his whole life to the service of God. He is the priest who is speaking to you now! What I am I owe to Our Lady. You, too, my dear brethren, be entirely dedicated also to Our Lady and never let a day pass without saying the beautiful prayer, 'Hail Mary', and your Rosary. Ask her to enlighten the minds of Protestants who are separated from the true Church of Christ founded on the Rock (Peter) and 'against whom the gates of hell shall never prevail.''

Mother Mary is Gods gift given to us , a mother who is always there to intercede on behalf of us and pray together with us. She interceded for the wedding couple at Cana and since the word of the Almighty God says, he is the same unchanging God yesterday, today and forever, I believe that Mother intercedes for each one of us whenever we are in need and she prays together with us. It is written , when two of you agree about anything on earth, it shall be done for you by my Father in heaven . So every time we pray the Rosary together with mother Mary , Gods mighty power is manifested in each and every situation of our life at our asking. My personal experience of Praying the Rosary shows me, that Mother MARY has always been there for me and she has obtained each and everything for me from her Son Jesus as she did at the wedding feast at Cana.

First of all I thank our blessed mother for saving the Couple through the rosary. Indeed Rosary is a powerful weapon against all adversities. I have experienced many incidents which saved my life through the powerful intercession of our blessed mother. I still continue to say the rosary on my way to work, while travelling and in times of trouble too not forgetting to say the
family rosary every night. I also would like to say this to the ones who dont say their rosary , atleast make a novena of three Hail Mary's placing your intention after each Hail Mary ---Like Mary My Mother Keep us away from mortal sin or any other intentions depends with the situation you are into. You will see Mother's tremendous grace bestowed on you and your family.
I wish all the readers a Merry Christmas, May baby jesus bring peace and joy in your hearts and homes.

There is one mediator between man and God and that mediator is Christ Jesus.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 12th Dec, 2008
Dear Readers,
Greetings in the name of Jesus. I have gone through all the letters. For that I would quote verses from the bible.

1.And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (II Cor.4:3-4) Who is the god of this age?(world) Satan. The world is under the control of the evil one. (IJohn 5:19) Who is that evil one? Satan. So the above scripture is clear. It says that Satan has veiled(blinded) the minds of unbelievers. And unless the Holy Spirit of Christ touches their mind they will go on in their unbelief. But if they turn to Jesus that veil will be removed. For bible says in II Cor.3:16 "But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away." Unless these people turn to the Lord nothing will happen. They will continue in their ways and perish.

2. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (I Timothy 2:5) Verse 6 says " who gave himself as a ransom for all men." This scripture makes amply clear that in between God and men there is only one mediator, and that mediator is Jesus Christ who died on the cross for everybody's sin. As a ransom for all men. Why? Because people are under the bondage of satan who is holding them as a captive making them his slaves and using them for his glory.he has veiled them so that people should not come to Jesus. Under one pretext or the other he is ruling over them. And he will continue to rule over them till they perish.

3."They claim to know God,but by their action they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. (Titus 1:16) People claim that they know Jesus. They also say that Jesus died for their sins. If you ask them whether they love Jesus, they will say ofcourse we love Jesus. But by their action(not obeying him) they deny Jesus. For such people God says that they are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. And to disobey God is sin. They want to continue in sin.In a way they want to remain in darkness and not to come to light lest their deeds will be exposed. Jesus is Light. And that Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19) They want to remain in slavery. Those who come to Jesus they love light, they don't want to live in darkness (sin) because Jesus sets them free. Hallelujah. God's children will come to God, obey God and follow God. Others will not till they are touched by God.God has to touch their heart and remove that veil from their eyes which satan has kept them under that veil all these years following their traditions and customs. In gospel of Mathew chapter 11 verse 28 Jesus says. "Come to me" still people want to continue in their ways and refuse to come to him. Again in Revelation chapter 3 verse 20 Jesus says "Here I am ! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in" These people will refuse to open the door but will continue to follow the teachings handed to them by their encesstors. Jesus will go on calling,he will go on knocking the door. And these people will say. "We are too busy,we have no time."

4. In Luke chapter 1 verse 46 Mary said. "My soul glorifies the Lord 47verse says." and my spirit rejoices God my Saviour" Here we see that Mary calls Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. Not only that, she calls him God.And in verse 48 she call herself his humble servant. She does not want to take glory rather she gives all the glory to Jesus. And in verse 49 Mary says. "for the Mighty One has done great things for me. " Who is this Mighty One ? Jesus ofcourse. In John's gospel chapter 2 verse 5 Mary says. " Do whatever he tells you." But people don't want to obey even Mary but want to continue in their traditions. They don't want to come to Jesus nor they want to obey Mary. Thus they deny Mary, deny Jesus and finally deny God. For rightly scripture says that these people claim to know God but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. (Titus 1:16)

You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free(John 8 :32)
by Sebastian D'Souza on 15th Dec, 2008
Dear Readers,
Christian greetings. Please read the following scriptures which only will take you to God.
1."But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. " (Mathew 6:33)
2." For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. "(John 3:16)
3."For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:17)
4."I am the way and the truth and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
5."I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." (John 3:3)
6."I tell you the truth no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (John 3:5)
7."Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." (Mathew 4:17)
8."Repent, and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
9."And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ." (Romans 8:9b)
10.For wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
These are some of the scriptures which are vital for reaching out to God. Other rituals, traditions, religion and customs will take you nowhere rather take you away from God. In these last days God wants all to repent and come to the knowledge of his Son who can give you eternal life. He is the Saviour of the world. Hallelujah.

Your point 8. refers for the people who are not baptised. As for your point about the last days, as per prophet Joel (Joel 2:28 / 29) "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions."
29 "Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. "
It is not required to have water baptism because Jesus said "I will baptise you with holy spirit and fire"

Who is this Mighty One ?
by Elvis Sequeira on 15th Dec, 2008
[To Mr. Sebastian D'Souza ] In your above comment dated 12th Dec 2008, In Luke chapter 1 verse 49 , When you ask a question "Who is this Mighty One ?"
your answer is "Jesus ofcourse." but the answer should be "GOD THE FATHER WHO RESCUED ISRAEL FROM PHARAOH AND WHO HAS SENT THE PLAGUES WHICH THE EGYPTIANS GODS COULD NOT REMOVE "
THE ONE WHO OPENED THE SEA AND MADE A WAY TO ISRAEL TO CROSS IT AND WHO HAS CONFUSED PHARAOH AND HIS MIGHTY ARMY - IS THE MIGHTY ONE

God wants obedience. (I Samuel 15:22)
by Sebastian D'Souza on 16th Dec, 2008
To Mr. Elvis Sequeira,
I have gone through your comments. Thank you. I mentioned rightly in point 8. Every sinner has to repent and also be baptized. That is God's command and not option. Jesus was not a sinner yet he approached John for baptism. When John tried to deter him Jesus said "Let it be so now,it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. " Then John consented. Earlier Jesus said that he has come not break the law but to fulfill the law. Being the Son of God he humbled himself even before John. Why? Just because he wanted to obey God. He could very well refuse but he wanted to obey God's command. How much, we being sinners should obey God. Secondly one has to take baptism after repenting, for that please refer Acts 2:38 and you will come to know. When a child is one month old cannot repent. The child does not know what the sin is. And unless the child knows what the sin is, the child cannot repent. My dear friend, are you with me? So it is clear that a person has to be grown up to know the sin. Then only the person can repent. Now you may say that one need not go in the water. For that I would request you to read Romans chapter 6 and where everything is explained. Jesus was baptized when he was more than thirty years old. He went into the river and set an example for us to follow his footstep. Water baptism is a must. It is an outward expression of what you believe inside(heart). At the same time it is a matter of obedience. Two things one has to do. First repent and then be baptized. Both are important. Without repentance baptism has no meaning. See the way John the baptist rebuked people who came to him to be baptized. One should not take baptism lightly.

Your second point is about the" Mighty One" You are correct. The Mighty one is God. But I would ask you one thing and that is to go through John's gospel chapter one and verse 1 where it is said that "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. " Now here John is talking about the "Word" and who is that word? Please read verse 14 in same chapter where it says that the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Who made his dwelling? The answer is Jesus. Jesus became flesh. Let me repeat Verse 1 and relace Jesus wherevver there is Word. You will find that "In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. My dear friend, are you with me? So before the birth of Jesus, he was Father, he was God. In the bible Jesus is known by many names and one of them is "Mighty One" He is also known as the "Morning Star. " So Jesus brought his people out of Egypt. He opened the Red sea for Jews to cross the sea and he only confused Pharoah. God became Christ Jesus in flesh. God had to come in this world because he loved the world and wanted to save this world. He could not remain in heaven and just watch people perishing. Because of his love, he came down leaving his throne and glory for you and me and took birth in a poor carpenters family. He became poor to make us rich. He took our sins so that we may be set free from sin. And finally he died on the cross so that we may live. Hallelujah.

The powerful spiritual routine not ritual - The Rosary
by Jennifer Praveen on 17th Dec, 2008
I truly believe in the Rosary & the goodness in daily practicing it for sound spirituality in times of crisis. This was a good reminder to put into practice what I feel nice to think abt. There is nothing merely ritualistic & repetitive in saying the Rosary meaningfully & also as a meditative tool which calms the soul. Just as we have mental exercises like yoga, praying the Rosary is a good kind of meditation that detoxes our mind & helps us to remain calm & collected esp. when crisis occurs. Also, Jesus our Saviour, has given us His mother to invoke upon her. As the mother of our God, God has blessed us with a Blessed Mother we can turn to for intercession & prayer. Her role as the virgin blessed mother chosen by God for Jesus honours her position. She has proved her powerful connection to God with her intuition & miraculous apparitions.

God do not need to come to the earth !!!
by Elvis Sequeira on 17th Dec, 2008
Your point which says " God became Christ Jesus in flesh. " leaving His Throne and came to earth is False... otherwise you are other points are correct

Why will God come to the earth? In # Isaiah 66:1
[ Judgment and Hope ] This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?
Isaiah 66:1-3 (in Context) Isaiah 66 (Whole Chapter)

So Jesus Christ was the son of God , AND NOT GOD HIMSELF !!!
God Became flesh means - God has sent His beloved Son to be the saviour of the world...

" My sheep heareth my voice."
by Sebastian D'Souza on 19th Dec, 2008
To Mrs. Lourdes D Costa,

Christian greetings. First and foremost I would like to thank you for reading my comments. Truth is always hard to digest and bitter in taste. And people take more time to receive the truth. Who is the truth but Jesus. People did not accept his teachings during his time but demanded Jesus be crucified when Pilot wanted to release him. So even today people have not changed. If you see what is happening in Kandamal, Orissa you will agree with me. But Gods work will go on. He has commanded his people to go and preach and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything “ I have commanded” you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. These are the words of Jesus. That is his command. And being his servant I want to obey him.

Now as you say that whatever I have written is adverse and sends wrong message. For that I would say that whatever I written is from God’s word and nothing of my own. I am very particular quoting scripture for each point. Everybody will not accept what I write. Gods people will hear Gods word. For Jesus says “ They will listen to my voice.” His words are his voice. Because God’s word has power. He can change their heart and bring them to repentance. God knows his people. There are people who are not his people. They will never accept him nor his teachings. My work is to evangelize. For that I have to tell the truth. God wants that people should know the truth. And even after knowing, people want to ignore then it is up to them. God does not want that people should say on the day of judgement that nobody told them about Jesus, or his teachings. God’s desire is to save everyone. But if people refuse then nobody can help them.

Obedience counts and not religion.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 23rd Dec, 2008
Dear Mr. Chico, Christian greetings. Thank you for taking note of my letters. For your comments I would only say that unless the Holy Spirit touches you, you will not understand Gods language. And to understand Gods language one needs Gods Spirit. Bible is not a ordinary book. It has power to change ones heart. The bible has changed not only billions but trillions of peoples hearts all over the world and everyday lacks of people are accepting Jesus as their Saviour all over the world. Thats why it is written in II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come." When people talk ill about me, I give glory to God and rejoice for God says. "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsly say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad. because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."{Mathew 5:11,12} We evangelize people from all religions, for all are sinners. Because every sinner needs a Saviour. Jesus did not come for righteous but sinners. If you consider yourself as a sinner, then you also need a Saviour. And without a Savior you cannot go to God. For Jesus says. " I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."{John 14:6} Mr. Chico are with me? Ever since you wrote earlier to me, I am praying everyday for you, that my God should touch your heart and make you like me. Not only you but I pray also for all who read my letters. Because I love them including you. Jesus said in Mathew chapter 28 verse 19 and 20.”Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Jesus also said in John chapter 15 and verse 16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. And verse 17 says “ This is my command ,Love each other.” In earlier verses Jesus says “ Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you” Here Jesus commands us to teach and make disciples of all nations. Not only that but he also says tells to obey. First of all Jesus has chosen me and appointed me to bear fruit. And secondly he has commanded me to teach and ask people to obey his teachings. I want to obey my Master. And I sing “ I am a new creation, no more in condemnation. Here in the Grace I stand.” My dear friend, you will not understand the joy of salvation. Only those people who are saved will understand but rejoice. Hallelujah.

Thou shall not make.....................
by Sebastian D'Souza on 24th Dec, 2008
To Maria Olive Cole,
Christian Greetings. I have gone through your letter. First of all,I would thank our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for enabling and providing you finances to build a beautiful house.Secondly I can understand your heart for praying for people. But raising a statue in the house is definitely not honouring God. I am equally sure that whatever you have done is out of ignorance and I know that God forgives such things in ones life. For that I would like to bring to your kind notice the first commandment of God.And that says "I am the Lord your God,who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol {Image} in the form of anything in heaven above or in the earth beneath or in the water below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of their fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, But showing love to a thousand generations,of those who love me and keep my commandments.{Exodus 20:2 to 6} Again in Deuteronomy chapter 4 verses 16 and 17 God says." Therefore watch yourselves carefully, so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol,an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman." My dear sister, I know your heart and your love is sincere and whatever you are doing is with good intension but out of ignorance. But when God has given his word to us for our life,we have to be very careful.Else we may commit sin.If you read the above quotations you will come to know that our God forbids us making any image{idol} and secondly he also forbids us in bowing before any image or worship and honour any image. Our God calls it a sin.Further he says that he will punish to the third and fourth generation.Do you get my point? But for those who do not,he says that he will bless{love} to thousand generations. Our God is a God of love and compassion. But at the same time he is a just God.He does not like his children should disobey him. When they disobey him,his heart weeps. So also we being his children, when we see people openly sinning,we also feel grieved.I am writing this note only because of Gods love which he has poured into our heart and not for anything else.God forbid, that I should judge any one.For God says to me that if I see any righteous person committing sin and if I do not bring to his notice,he says that person will die in his sin but his blood will be upon me. { Ezekiel 3 :19,20} For that,I tell people to read bible so that they will know God.I hope you will not mind for writing this letter. Please do not feel offended. My humble request that you should spend some time in reading the bible. God will speak to you. { Hebrew 1 :1} Last but not the least " Merry Christmas" Hallelujah. Before reading the bible I would request you to commit your life to Jesus.for that say this prayer. "Lord Jesus, I believe that I am a sinner.I also believe that you died for my sins. Lord Jesus please forgive my sins and cleanse my heart with your precious blood and make me righteous. Lord Jesus thank you for forgiving my sins and making me righteous.Lord Jesus I commit my life to you and promise to read your word. Please give me the gift of the Holy Spirit.Lord Jesus thank you for giving me your Spirit.Dear heavenly Father I praise you and worship you in the mighty name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.Amen." If you say this prayer, believe that Jesus has come in your heart to live with you for ever. Rejoice and be glad. Hallelujah.

The Bible for Sebestian Dsouza
by chico on 27th Dec, 2008
Mr. Sebestian D'souza the Bible is not an Ordinary book the Catholics were the first to have the Bible and later manipulated by the protestants for their own benefit by Martin Luther ,Calvin and many other protestants .By the way why are there so many protestant denominations Mr S.D souza

Obediance counts and not religin.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 31st Dec, 2008
Dear Chico,
Christian greetings. Also complements of the season. I have gone through your two letters. First and foremost I would like to clarify that I am not a protestant but Christian. Secondly the article which has appeared on this website under the caption " PEACE BE WITH YOU " is not of mine. My friend from Mumbai one Br.Johnson sent me that and since i liked it i thought of passing it on this web thinking that it is a good and timely message on Christmas eve. The credit or whatever it is should go to Br.Johnson and not me. In my every letter I try to present Jesus Christ to the people and tell them to read bible and try to obey the biblical teachings. Thus I try to win some souls for the kingdom of God. I am a evangelist and my main aim to make known Jesus Christ to the people. All are sinners and all need to be saved. For that people need a Saviour. Jesus is the Saviour of the world. And because he died on the cross for us. I explain gospel to the people. I do not tell people to leave their religion but I do tell them to accept and obey Jesus so that they will receive eternal life. If people accept him as their Saviour, he gives them right to become children of God. ( John's gospel chapter 1 and verse 12 ) So my intension was to bring you and everyone whoever reads my letter, into God's kingdom. I am happy to note that you accept that Bible is not a ordinary book and that's why the book is called "Holy Bible" It is holy and it makes those people holy who read and obey it's teachings. But Catholics are not the first to have it. You are mistaken. Catholicism came into existence in A.D.357 with the advent of Emperor Constantino of Roman Empire. He made Christianity as a state religion and declare himself as a Pope in A.D.357.He was the first Pope of Catholic religion and not Peter. Till then Christianity had their head quarters at Jerusalem. Apostles and disciples of Jesus Christ used to gather in Jerusalem. Read Acts from new testament and you will come to know. Protestants are different from Catholics. However the Protestant religion came into existence in 19th century. I do not want to write much on protestants as it is not concerned with us. My main issue is Jesus and his teachings. I am chosen for that and I work for that volunteers. There are no denominations in protestant religion. They are known as protestants or Methodists. During first century the apostles and disciples were known as " Believers " and later at Antioch first time they were called " Christians " If you read Acts chapter 11 and verse 26. you will know. Believers or who are also called Christians have denominations. But all have one bible and one teaching. Their main function is based on biblical teachings. Read Ephesians chapter 4 and verse 4-6 where the Paul says. " There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called--one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. Bible teaches that one must be born again. And to be born again one has to repent. Without repentance there is no conviction and without conviction there is no conversion. And finally without conversion there is no salvation. If you receive the gift of salvation then only one can enter the kingdom of God. Each one is related to another and each one is complementary to another. Kingdom of God is a matter of power and that power one gets from God when one is born again. And one will have fellowship with God. Once you wrote saying that I know very little about " Born Again " And for your query I gave big message on this topic. One important thing I want to tell you and that is unless one has the Spirit of God, he will not know God and neither he can please God. My humble request is, read carefully and try to understand calmly. To understand biblical language is bit difficult. Mr.Chico are you with me? You say that I am targeting Catholics which is not correct. I tell everybody about the gospel. All are sinners and all need to be saved. Who can save them except Jesus Christ? Jesus died for the sinners and Catholics are no exception to that. Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3 : 23) When Adam and Eve sinned God drove them out of garden of Eden. And being Adam and Eve are our physical forefathers, we have inherited that sinful nature through their blood. But thanks be to God that he sent his one and only Son to die for us so that he could reconcile us to God or rather bring us back to God. Hallelujah. Whole bible teaches us that in order to follow the teachings obedience is important. One may read bible but if he does not obey it's teachings then that reading is useless and waste of time and also of energy. Obedience is counted and not anything else. Hallelujah. May God bless you richly. Wish you HAPPY NEW YEAR in advance. Bye.

your post is misleading and completly incorrect Mr SEbestian D'souza
by chico on 2nd Jan, 2009
Mr Sebestian D'Souza,
I went through your above post, and God forgive you , so many things you mentioned are misleading and incorrect ,I'm not with you as far as what your version of Bible teaches you ,You talk about idolatry you believe in the bible and worship and honour the Bible which in your sense becomes an IDOL am I right ???????? So you know something even an uneducated person or someone who does not know religion would not get carried away with what you've mentioned, people used to be ignorant in the past and many have fallen into this trap of the so called '' BELIEVERS'' or ''BORN AGAIN'' but now people being more educated definitely some research will be made before someone comes to a conclusion. You mentioned you are one of those so called believers or Born Again who are brainwashed zoombies . Have a look at these websites do a through research on the catholic religion . All I can do is just Pray for your conversion by saying the rosary daily with you in mind. God Bless and save you. Amen

For Mr Sebestian Dsouza WHICH WAS APPOINTED BY CHRIST TO TEACH MANKIND THE TRUE RELIGION -THE CHURCH OR THE BIBLE?
by chico on 3rd Jan, 2009
WHICH WAS APPOINTED BY CHRIST TO TEACH MANKIND THE TRUE RELIGION -THE CHURCH OR THE BIBLE?

When our Divine Savior sent His Apostles throughout the world to preach the Gospel to every creature, He laid down the conditions of salvation thus: "He who believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he who believeth not shall be condemned" (Mark 16:16). Here, then, our Blessed Lord laid down two absolute and universal conditions - Faith and Baptism. What is this Divine Faith which we must have in order to be saved? It is to believe, upon the authority of God, "all things whatsoever" (Matt: 28:20) He has revealed. Therefore if a man would be saved he must profess the true Religion. Now if God commands me under pain of damnation to believe what He has taught, He is bound to give me the means to know what He has taught. What is this means?" "The Bible," say the Protestants. But we Catholics say, "No, not the Bible, but the Church of God." For if God had intended that man should learn his religion from the Bible, surely God would have given that book to man. But He did not do so. Christ sent His apostles throughout the earth and said: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19,20). Christ did not say, sit down and write Bibles, and then let every man read and judge for himself Since the sixteenth century we have seen the result of such thinking in the founding of hundreds of religions by men, all quarreling with one another about the interpretation of the Bible. Jesus never wrote a line of scripture nor did He command His Apostles to do so, except when He directed St. John to write the Apocalypse (Book of Revelations 1:11), but ordered them to "teach all nations" (Matt. 28:19). In Matt. 18:17, He does not say, "He who will not read the scriptures," but "he who will not hear the Church, let him be to thee as the heathen and the publican." The Apostles never circulated a single volume of scripture, but going forth, preached everywhere ()&ark 16:20). It is true that our Lord said on one occasion, "Search the Scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and the same are they that give testimony of me" (John 5:39). This passage is quoted by Protestants in favor of private interpretation but proves nothing of the kind. Our Savior speaks here only of the Old Testament, because the New Testament was not yet written. He addressed, not the Apostles, but the Pharisees, and reproaches them for not admitting His Divinity, clearly known and shown by the prophets of the Old Testament.

The Church established by Christ existed about 65 years before St. John wrote the last book of the Bible. During these years how did the people know what they had to do to save their souls? Was it from the Bible they learned it? No, because the Bible as such was not yet composed. They knew it precisely as we know it, from the teaching of the Church of God. The New Testament writings were not gathered together and declared to be divinely inspired until late in the fourth century. Moreover, these witnesses were Catholics, and accepted the Scriptures as divinely inspired because their Church declared them to be so. Protestants hold that the writings, known as the Sacred Scriptures, are inspired. But it is on the Catholic Church's word that they hold this truth! They take for granted that followers of the Catholic Church transcribed and translated the original writings without making any errors, that they never altered a line, that they preserved them until the sixteenth century in their original purity and integrity. Unless they grant all this, they cannot logically appeal to the Scriptures as divine authority. Thus Protestants are breaking away from their theory of "Nothing but the Bible" and basing their arguments on Tradition, or on the authority of the Catholic Church, which, on principle, they repudiate!

The Jewish religion existed before the Old Testament was written, just as the Christian Church existed before the New Testament was written. Peter converted three thousand before the first word of the New Testament was put on paper. Paul had converted hundreds of Romans, Corinthians, Galatians and Thessalonians before he wrote his epistles to those congregations; and all the Apostles were dead, and millions had died Catholic martyrs, before St. John wrote the last part of the New Testament. Until the end of the first century the "Word of God" could have been delivered only by word of mouth.

For Mr Sebestian Dsouza

HOW OLD ARE THE PROTESTANT CHURCHES?

The Lutheran Church was founded in the year 1517 by Martin Luther, a former priest of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Church of England (Anglicanism) was founded by King Henry VIII in 1534 when he threw off the authority of the Pope and proclaimed himself the head of the Church in England, because the Pope refused to declare invalid his marriage with Queen Catherine.
The Presbyterian denomination was begun in 1560 by John Knox who was dissatisfied with Anglicanism.
The Episcopalian denomination was begun in 1784 by Samuel Seabury who was dissatisfied with Presbyterianism.
The Baptist church was launched by John Smyth in Amsterdam, Holland in the year 1606.
The Methodist church was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.
The Unitarians were founded by Theophilus Lindley in London, in 1774.
The Jehovah's Witness Church was developed in 1872 by Charles Russell.
The founder of The Salvation Army is William Booth, who quit the Anglicans, and then the Methodists, and set up his own version of Christianity in 1787. His own son, Ballinger, quit The Salvation Army and did the same for himself in 1896.
Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy began the Christian Scientist religion in 1879, basing it upon an outright denial of Original Sin and its effects.
The Mormon church, the Seventh-Day Adventists, the Church of Christ, The Church of the Nazarene, or any of the various Pentecostal Churches, etc. are also among the hundreds of new churches founded by men within the past 150 years or so.

The Roman Catholic Church was founded by God-made-man, Jesus Christ, in the year 33 A.D. He said: "Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it... Feed my lambs; feed My sheep" (Matt. 16:18,19; John 21:15,17). He also said: "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who gathers not with me scatters" (Matt.12:30).

God did not make religion but man.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 3rd Jan, 2009
Dear Mr.Chico,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ did tell his disciples to to teach everything what he had told and taught them and not religion. And Peter preached exactly the same on the day of Penticost and brought three thousand people into God's kingdom by telling them how they were responsible for crucifying the author of life-Jesus Christ which broght conviction in their heart. He did not tell them any thing about the Church nor about the Roman Catholic Church. Because the Roman Catholic Church was not existed at that time. Now as far as the beginning about the said church is concerned is written in the history which no one can change. And whatever I have mentioned is from that history. So what you believe and what you write has no substantial proof to consider. Just ask some theologtians of the roman catholic church as to when the so called CANON LAWS were written and brought into force. For the sake of enforcing these laws the roman catholic church authority kept aside the teachings of the bible. For example take the ten commandments. When the first commandment says not to make images or idols why the church authority not only allows but professes and encourages to make idols,to adore and worship idols? And also when Jesus says that one has to be born again why the authority does preach on this point? Anyway I do not want to enter into any argument as Paul writes not to. Whatever I have written are facts. Now it is upto you whether to accept or reject. Now as far as Mattt. 16:18 is concerned Jesus did say what you have mentioned saying My Church and not what you believe. He did not say Roman Catholic Church. These words you will not find anywhere in the New Testament. The Roman Catholic Church came into existance in fourth century and that is the history. You have quoted the words of Jesus saying "He who is not with Me is against Me. I do agree and ask you the same question ARE YOU BORN AGAIN? I am sure you are not,as you have already mentioned. So my dear friend Mr. Chico be born again. Because Jesus says so. Are you with Jesus? And if you are not with Jesus then you are against Jesus. Do you hear me? Obey him and not me. I am his servant. My work is to preach Jesus and bring as many people as possible into his kingdom. No more discusion no more controversy but love everyone. Bye.

Whats your interpretation of born again ? is is Believing in you ? Why ? Any concrete reason ? BTW your so called interpretation of idol worship is baseless, and you anti-catholics have got only this idol worship argument to criticize the Catholic Church so here 's what we catholic really do with Holy images of Jesus Mary and the saints .......Do Catholics Worship Statues? Do Catholics Worship Statues?

"Catholics worship statues!" People still make this ridiculous claim. Because Catholics have statues in their churches, goes the accusation, they are violating God’s commandment: "You shall not make for yourself a graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow down to them or serve them" (Ex. 20:4–5); "Alas, this people have sinned a great sin; they have made for themselves gods of gold" (Ex. 32:31).

It is right to warn people against the sin of idolatry when they are committing it. But calling Catholics idolaters because they have images of Christ and the saints is based on misunderstanding or ignorance of what the Bible says about the purpose and uses (both good and bad) of statues.

Anti-Catholic writer Loraine Boettner, in his book Roman Catholicism, makes the blanket statement, "God has forbidden the use of images in worship" (281). Yet if people were to "search the scriptures" (cf. John 5:39), they would find the opposite is true. God forbade the worship of statues, but he did not forbid the religious use of statues. Instead, he actually commanded their use in religious contexts!

God Said To Make Them

People who oppose religious statuary forget about the many passages where the Lord commands the making of statues. For example: "And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two gold statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be" (Ex. 25:18–20).

David gave Solomon the plan "for the altar of incense made of refined gold, and its weight; also his plan for the golden chariot of the cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. All this he made clear by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all, all the work to be done according to the plan" (1 Chr. 28:18–19). David’s plan for the temple, which the biblical author tells us was "by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all," included statues of angels.

Similarly Ezekiel 41:17–18 describes graven (carved) images in the idealized temple he was shown in a vision, for he writes, "On the walls round about in the inner room and [on] the nave were carved likenesses of cherubim."

The Religious Uses of Images

During a plague of serpents sent to punish the Israelites during the exodus, God told Moses to "make [a statue of] a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live" (Num. 21:8–9).

One had to look at the bronze statue of the serpent to be healed, which shows that statues could be used ritually, not merely as religious decorations.

Catholics use statues, paintings, and other artistic devices to recall the person or thing depicted. Just as it helps to remember one’s mother by looking at her photograph, so it helps to recall the example of the saints by looking at pictures of them. Catholics also use statues as teaching tools. In the early Church they were especially useful for the instruction of the illiterate. Many Protestants have pictures of Jesus and other Bible pictures in Sunday school for teaching children. Catholics also use statues to commemorate certain people and events, much as Protestant churches have three-dimensional nativity scenes at Christmas.

If one measured Protestants by the same rule, then by using these "graven" images, they would be practicing the "idolatry" of which they accuse Catholics. But there’s no idolatry going on in these situations. God forbids the worship of images as gods, but he doesn’t ban the making of images. If he had, religious movies, videos, photographs, paintings, and all similar things would be banned. But, as the case of the bronze serpent shows, God does not even forbid the ritual use of religious images.

It is when people begin to adore a statue as a god that the Lord becomes angry. Thus when people did start to worship the bronze serpent as a snake-god (whom they named "Nehushtan"), the righteous king Hezekiah had it destroyed (2 Kgs. 18:4).

What About Bowing?

Sometimes anti-Catholics cite Deuteronomy 5:9, where God said concerning idols, "You shall not bow down to them." Since many Catholics sometimes bow or kneel in front of statues of Jesus and the saints, anti-Catholics confuse the legitimate veneration of a sacred image with the sin of idolatry.

Though bowing can be used as a posture in worship, not all bowing is worship. In Japan, people show respect by bowing in greeting (the equivalent of the Western handshake). Similarly, a person can kneel before a king without worshipping him as a god. In the same way, a Catholic who may kneel in front of a statue while praying isn’t worshipping the statue or even praying to it, any more than the Protestant who kneels with a Bible in his hands when praying is worshipping the Bible or praying to it.

Hiding the Second Commandment?

Another charge sometimes made by Protestants is that the Catholic Church "hides" the second commandment. This is because in Catholic catechisms, the first commandment is often listed as "You shall have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3), and the second is listed as "You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain." (Ex. 20:7). From this, it is argued that Catholics have deleted the prohibition of idolatry to justify their use of religious statues. But this is false. Catholics simply group the commandments differently from most Protestants.

In Exodus 20:2–17, which gives the Ten Commandments, there are actually fourteen imperative statements. To arrive at Ten Commandments, some statements have to be grouped together, and there is more than one way of doing this. Since, in the ancient world, polytheism and idolatry were always united—idolatry being the outward expression of polytheism—the historic Jewish numbering of the Ten Commandments has always grouped together the imperatives "You shall have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3) and "You shall not make for yourself a graven image" (Ex. 20:4). The historic Catholic numbering follows the Jewish numbering on this point, as does the historic Lutheran numbering. Martin Luther recognized that the imperatives against polytheism and idolatry are two parts of a single command.

Jews and Christians abbreviate the commandments so that they can be remembered using a summary, ten-point formula. For example, Jews, Catholics, and Protestants typically summarize the Sabbath commandment as, "Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy," though the commandment’s actual text takes four verses (Ex. 20:8–11).

When the prohibition of polytheism/idolatry is summarized, Jews, Catholics, and Lutherans abbreviate it as "You shall have no other gods before me." This is no attempt to "hide" the idolatry prohibition (Jews and Lutherans don’t even use statues of saints and angels). It is to make learning the Ten Commandments easier.

The Catholic Church is not dogmatic about how the Ten Commandments are to be numbered, however. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, "The division and numbering of the Commandments have varied in the course of history. The present catechism follows the division of the Commandments established by Augustine, which has become traditional in the Catholic Church. It is also that of the Lutheran confession. The Greek Fathers worked out a slightly different division, which is found in the Orthodox Churches and Reformed communities" (CCC 2066).

The Form of God?

Some anti-Catholics appeal to Deuteronomy 4:15–18 in their attack on religious statues: "[S]ince you saw no form on the day that the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, beware lest you act corruptly by making a graven image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth."

We’ve already shown that God doesn’t prohibit the making of statues or images of various creatures for religious purposes (cf. 1 Kgs. 6:29–32, 8:6–66; 2 Chr. 3:7–14). But what about statues or images that represent God? Many Protestants would say that’s wrong because Deuteronomy 4 says the Israelites did not see God under any form when he made the covenant with them, therefore we should not make symbolic representations of God either. But does Deuteronomy 4 forbid such representations?

The Answer Is No

Early in its history, Israel was forbidden to make any depictions of God because he had not revealed himself in a visible form. Given the pagan culture surrounding them, the Israelites might have been tempted to worship God in the form of an animal or some natural object (e.g., a bull or the sun).

But later God did reveal himself under visible forms, such as in Daniel 7:9: "As I looked, thrones were placed and one that was Ancient of Days took his seat; his raiment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, its wheels were burning fire." Protestants make depictions of the Father under this form when they do illustrations of Old Testament prophecies.

The Holy Spirit revealed himself under at least two visible forms—that of a dove, at the baptism of Jesus (Matt. 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32), and as tongues of fire, on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1–4). Protestants use these images when drawing or painting these biblical episodes and when they wear Holy Spirit lapel pins or place dove emblems on their cars.

But, more important, in the Incarnation of Christ his Son, God showed mankind an icon of himself. Paul said, "He is the image (Greek: ikon) of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." Christ is the tangible, divine "icon" of the unseen, infinite God.

We read that when the magi were "going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh" (Matt. 2:11). Though God did not reveal a form for himself on Mount Horeb, he did reveal one in the house in Bethlehem.

The bottom line is, when God made the New Covenant with us, he did reveal himself under a visible form in Jesus Christ. For that reason, we can make representations of God in Christ. Even Protestants use all sorts of religious images: Pictures of Jesus and other biblical persons appear on a myriad of Bibles, picture books, T-shirts, jewelry, bumper stickers, greeting cards, compact discs, and manger scenes. Christ is even symbolically represented through the Icthus or "fish emblem."

Common sense tells us that, since God has revealed himself in various images, most especially in the incarnate Jesus Christ, it’s not wrong for us to use images of these forms to deepen our knowledge and love of God. That’s why God revealed himself in these visible forms, and that’s why statues and pictures are made of them.

Idolatry Condemned by the Church

Since the days of the apostles, the Catholic Church has consistently condemned the sin of idolatry. The early Church Fathers warn against this sin, and Church councils also dealt with the issue.

The Second Council of Nicaea (787), which dealt largely with the question of the religious use of images and icons, said, "[T]he one who redeemed us from the darkness of idolatrous insanity, Christ our God, when he took for his bride his holy Catholic Church . . . promised he would guard her and assured his holy disciples saying, ‘I am with you every day until the consummation of this age.’ . . . To this gracious offer some people paid no attention; being hoodwinked by the treacherous foe they abandoned the true line of reasoning . . . and they failed to distinguish the holy from the profane, asserting that the icons of our Lord and of his saints were no different from the wooden images of satanic idols."

The Catechism of the Council of Trent (1566) taught that idolatry is committed "by worshipping idols and images as God, or believing that they possess any divinity or virtue entitling them to our worship, by praying to, or reposing confidence in them" (374).

"Idolatry is a perversion of man’s innate religious sense. An idolater is someone who ‘transfers his indestructible notion of God to anything other than God’" (CCC 2114).

The Church absolutely recognizes and condemns the sin of idolatry. What anti-Catholics fail to recognize is the distinction between thinking a piece of stone or plaster is a god and desiring to visually remember Christ and the saints in heaven by making statues in their honor. The making and use of religious statues is a thoroughly biblical practice. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know his Bible.

Oh Yes Mr . Sebestian Jesus told Peter to build the church which what he did and called it Universal Church Which in other words is called Catholic (UNIVERSAL) Church..... Anyway this is my last that I'm will discuss on your posts and yet again Resourceful websites have been deleted from my post and it makes me wonder why??????
