Why Doesn’t God Answer?

Before launching a fatal attack, a suicide bomber prays to his deity, asking for success in taking the lives of as many men, women and children as possible.

In the aftermath moments later, among the strewn bodies is a bloodied woman grasping hold of her husband. In her anguish, she turns to God for the first time in years and cries out, “Why God, why?”

Nearby, a man stretches his hands to the sky as he stands over the lifeless body of his child. He has diligently attended church services every Sunday and has repeated the “Lord’s Prayer” every day of his life for the past 15 years—yet he still feels cut off from God, left alone to wallow in his pain.

Throughout the world, people hold prayer vigils, asking God to end both natural and manmade catastrophes—droughts, famines, wars—yet circumstances only grow worse. Why does God not answer when millions seem to seek His intervention?

How the World Prays

Among the world’s religious faiths, prayer means anything to anyone. It can be sing-song chants or long, monotonous recitations repeated over and over again. For hundreds of thousands of worshippers, prayer means public displays of emotion, involving tears, swaying bodies, and hands lifted to the sky. For others, it means facing a specific direction toward a revered, faraway site.

But to the God of the Bible, true prayer is a personal, private, one-on-one conversation between man and his Creator.

Scripture is filled with numerous accounts of answered prayer. Moses pleaded with God to change His mind and not destroy rebellious, carnal-minded Israel (Num. 14:11-19). Hannah, who was barren, implored God to give her a child of her own (I Sam. 1:5-11). David beseeched God to forgive him for committing terrible sins (Psa. 51). And before He was taken to be crucified, Jesus asked God to protect His disciples (John 17:6-11).

God answered their prayers. He answers prayers today—if they meet certain conditions.

Believe God

The Holy Bible is a divinely inspired instruction manual from the Creator to His creation. It explains who and what man is—why he exists, what is life’s purpose—and how man can attain the awesome future God has in store for him.

The Bible is also God’s Word of truth (John 17:17). As its Author, God declares “the scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). It is a book of promises guaranteed to be fulfilled because it is “impossible for God to lie” (Heb. 6:18).

Study the Bible and you will find God promises protection, to provide our necessities (food, drink, clothing and shelter), strength in time of need, and more. Jesus said, “And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive” (Matt. 21:22).

This requires faith. The apostle Paul wrote, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6). It takes faith to believe that God exists and that He always keeps His promises.

The Bible defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (vs. 1). Faith is your proof that God will deliver His promises—it is your guarantee He will come through for you.

Psalm 14:1 states, “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God.” In this modern age of secular thinking, hundreds of millions do not believe God exists. Naturally, such people would think prayer a waste of time.

Yet there are others who—by their actions—say, “There is no God,” meaning, “There is no God over me!” They pray thinking they can flatter the Creator of the universe into doing whatever they ask. Often they are religionists who put on a “holier than thou” show of prayer “testimony” before their congregations, believing they can convince God with their many words. Their prayers may seem sincere—but God is not moved.

To approach God in prayer means to believe He exists. He is the One who says in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together.” God wants His creation to approach Him, to express thoughts and concerns to Him. He is the Master Potter, and we are His clay (Isa. 64:8). He declares, “I the Lord search the heart [mind], I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” (Jer. 17:10).

Obey God

But belief in God is only the first step. Billions believe God exists. They cry out to Him, but He seems so far away.

Yet God says of Himself, “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear” (Isa. 59:1). Still something prevents the prayers of most from going any higher than the ceiling. Verse 2 reveals the answer: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”

“Sin is the transgression of the law” (I John 3:4). Sin separates—cuts us off—from God. Ironically, religionists, preachers and others teach their followers that God’s Law is “done away,” “abolished” or “kept for us by Christ,” convincing them there is no need to obey God.

The continual breaking of God’s Law is a major factor in unanswered prayer. Consider: “He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination” (Prov. 28:9).

God will not hear the prayers of those who do not obey Him: “Beloved, if your heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things which are pleasing in His sight” (I John 3:21-22).

Note what Jesus said in John 8:29: “And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father has not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.” Christ obeyed God, and for this His Father always heard His Son’s prayers. The same could be said of you—IF you, like Christ, obey God and diligently put His will first.

When thousands of believers gathered at Jerusalem asked the apostle Peter what they must do to stop living contrary to God’s way of life, he said, “Repent”! (Acts 2:38). The word “repent” simply means “change.” But what does one change? His attitude, thoughts and behavior—the total person, a complete change of life and direction from the way of get (selfishness, vanity, lust, greed, pride, competition) to God’s way of give (selflessness, meekness, humility, concern for others, cooperation). Romans 3:23 states, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Through genuine, heartfelt repentance, God grants the forgiveness of sins, removing through Jesus Christ’s perfect sacrifice the very thing that separates us from God. Then and only then can our prayers be heard.

Traditional Christianity has lost these vital keys in obeying and serving God. Modern Christendom, though outwardly appearing to be righteous and sacred, is mired in traditions and customs of men. Christ says to those who profess to be Christian that God does not hear them because they break His laws (Matt. 7:21-23).

Determine to adhere to what God teaches, and not men. Avoid becoming like those Jesus spoke of in Matthew 15: “This people draws near unto Me with their mouth, and honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (vs. 8-9).

Fear God

There is an additional requirement to answered prayer, which flows from believing and obeying God: We must fear Him.

The Israelites fell into a tragic cycle of believing God, obeying Him, taking His blessings for granted, forgetting God, disobeying Him, worshipping false gods, being punished, crying out for mercy, receiving God’s deliverance—and so the pattern repeated itself.

Not fearing God prevented Israel from continuing to believe Him, and recognize His authority over their lives. Lack of godly fear kept the Israelites from faithfully obeying God’s commandments, judgments and statutes.

Proverbs 8:13 states, “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward [perverse] mouth, do I hate.” God hates ALL forms of evil—proud thoughts, arrogant attitudes, evil behavior, and perverse words—everything that comprises carnal nature.

The vast majority mistakenly believes man is “basically good,” but flawed. But that is not how God views human beings. He says it is not natural for man to follow His ways. Take note: “Because the carnal mind is enmity [hostile] against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be” (Rom. 8:7).

But what about those who claim to worship God, who go to Sunday services and close their eyes in prayer, thinking that God will hear them?

“There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Rom. 3:10-18).

As you can see, the carnal mind does not naturally fear God—in fact, it works against Him. However, a believing, obedient mindset will allow one to fear God, if he submits himself to be led of God’s Spirit.

God listens to those who are teachable, humble and yielded to Him. Notice Isaiah 66: “Thus says the Lord, The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: where is the house that You build unto Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things has My hand made, and all those things have been, says the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My Word” (vs. 1-2).

Such a person “depart[s] from evil” (Job 28:28) because, like God (Prov. 8:13), he hates evil.

But what steps must one take to have the Holy Spirit actively at work in the mind, converting carnal thoughts to the outgoing thoughts of holy, righteous, godly character?

The above points are just a few of the keys to establishing active, prayerful communication to which God will listen. It will help you understand what it means to pray to God—how to pray—when and how often—what to pray for.

Remember, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (Jms. 5:16) .

The God who answers prayer, and says, “Come now, and let us reason together” (Isa. 1:18) is waiting to hear from you.

Thank God

I want to give thanks to the Lord for all that He has done for us.  I praise Him for His Healing touch.  I thank God that He has provided for all our financial needs .  Praise God.  I thank God for His continual help in meeting this budget and any extra expenses incurred each month.  The mother board was fried.  Praise God, because of God’s faithfulness, it is now replaced.  The Lord supernaturally supplied us a new computer so you won’t miss your articles of encouragement. We are here to agree with you that the 'perfect will of God' be accomplished in all of your needs according to His promises.

“Lead me through the night”
Lyrics:-

Lord You are
My refuge and my shelter
In Your presence I will hide
I will wait for the God of my salvation
He will hear me when I cry

Though I fall
I will rise
High above the storm
Like an eagle I will fly
In the dark
You are my light
Bright and morning star
Come and lead me through the night
Oh lead me through the night

Lord You are my help in times of trouble
When others leave You will abide
You’re a friend that’s closer than a brother
You will never leave my side

Though I fall
I will rise
High above the storm
Like an eagle I will fly
In the dark
You are my light
Bright and morning star
Come and lead me through the night
Oh lead me through the night

Lead me through the night
Lead me through the night
Won’t You lead me through the night
Lead me through the night
Won’t You lead me through the night
Lead me through the night
Lead me through the night

Though I fall
I will rise
High above the storm
Like an eagle I will fly
In the dark
You are my light
Bright and morning star
Come and lead me through the night (2)

Oh lead me through the night
Won’t You lead me through the night
Oh Lead me through the night
Won’t You lead me through the night
Won’t You lead me through the night
Lord Won’t You lead me, lead me
Won’t You lead me, lead me ,
Won’t You lead me through the night
Lord Won’t You lead me, lead me
Lead me, lead me, lead me through the night
Lord Won’t You lead me, lead me
Lead me, lead me, lead me through the night.

Praise The Lord

Praise The Lord, who heals His people even today ...Praise the LORD God of Israel!! I would like to give a praise report.

Within the past year God has healed my mom from both kidney failure and lung cancer. The cancer was so bad her insurance refused to pay for treatment because they said it was untreatable and incurable because of its size. What they did not know is the faith of my mom and dad and the love and power of God. Her last scan revealed the cancer completely gone; the doctors are amazed and have no explanation. My mom gladly reminded them God is the only explanation. I praise God for her perfect health in Jesus name, amen.

Come all let us be more closer to our Lord.
by lr on 11th Feb, 2009
1. Olden generation fell on earth at the alter and worshiped Lord God (that was the distance between people and God).
2. The next generation knelt down in the Lords house and worshiped ( widening the distance between them both)
3. The modern generation stood at the door of church and worship (now what is the distance? let one measure).

Lord God is good, He is loving and caring and ready to hear us, but only if we are nearer to him and obey his teachings as mentioned in above statements.

Who says
by Sebastian D'Souza on 12th Feb, 2009
Dear Ivan,
Christia greetings.I have gone through your ordial and felt that you are not the only one who has given your lifetime experience and asked such a question. And our friend Eduardo has already given his testimony saying how our God supernaturally provided him brand new computer. One side your version and other side his testimony. Both are contradictory. There are million and millions of people in this wreched world who are groaning and feel that their God has left them to suffer. Everybody feels and admits that there is one God. But sadly everybody believes and worships his God who is different from your God and my God. Are there many Gods? No. Then why these people say one thing and do something differently? Because if you trouble your brain little you will come to know that majority of them are deceived and the deceiver ids the Devil. Our God created Adam and Eve and blessed them and gave instructions for their life. But Satan came in the picture and because Eve and Adam sadly obeyed him instead of the Creator, and brought sin into this world. Not only that as Satan got access into man's life he created havoc and divided people under the guise of religion. God did not bring religion in this world but Satan through man. Further each religion has their own God and each religion has their own idols. In the bargain each one thinks his God is a real God. People have not bothered to see who is real and which god is false. Thank God that he has not not left us in darkness but given us light through Jesus and also for our guidance has also given us his word which is called Bible. Why I say this? Because bible has proved it's worth by exhibiting it's power. Right from Moses to Me I mean myself. Our God is alive and can be experienced even today. For our God is same yesterday today and forever. So my dear friend try to find real God and follow that real God I mean obey that real God and he will definitely answer your prayer.

I used to believe Jesus but did not commit my life to him.I did not read bible hence I was not knowing Jesus. But when I started reading bible I came to know who Jesus is.I also came to know that knowing him is not enough but I have to obey him. In order to obey him I committed my life to him. And ever since I did that Jesus has answered each and every prayer. I was staying in a rented house.I went on changing houses every one year or so.I got fade up. One day all of us prayed and within a month I got the flat. That too very cheap. The owner agreed to accept in installments. While giving possession he did not take even one rupee.I had four marriageable daughters. Believe me, boys came to us proposing them in marriage.Well educated from respectable families and also well settled. Three are graduates and one is post graduates. No dowry. Two are in Goa and two are in Denmark. Both got job in banks there. I do not want to boast but just telling you what the Lord has done for me. That's why I say just commit your life to Jesus and start reading bible. Because he is the only living God. He loves you and cares for you.Once you do that I assure you that our Jesus will definitely fill your heart with laughter, peace and joy. Not only that you will see blessings flowing in your life. And to commit your life to Jesus go in your room and when you are alone say this prayer. " Lord Jesus I believe that I am a sinner. I also believe that you died for my sins. Lord Jesus forgive my sins and cleanse my heart with your precious blood and make me your child.Lord Jesus I thank you for forgiving my sins.I also thank for accepting me as your child. Lord Jesus I promise to read your word everyday and obey your teachings.Loving Jesus give the gift of the Holy Spirit which you have promised. Lord Jesus thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit.Almighty God I praise and worship you in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. "

If you say this prayer tonight just believe that you have been set free. And tomorrow will be different for you.You will be changed instantly and from tomorrow you will be different person altogether. Just believe and relax in Him who has accepted you as his own. He has purchased you with his precious blood that's what bible says in I Corinthians Chapter 6 and verse 19.He has cleansed your heart with his own blood and made you pure and holy. Just believe start reading bible from John's gospel. God will help you because he is in you. Hallelujah. Give glory to our living God Jesus.

Need of Introspection.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 13th Feb, 2009
Dear Readers,
Christian greetings. You must have gone through my letter addressed to Ivan. It is not only for her but to all those who are in the same position asking as to why God is not answering my prayers. And for that I gave solution for the problem.
In continuation to my earlier letter I would I also would like to emphacise same problem and it's reasons. First and foremost man has aquired sinful nature and also Satan's qualities when Adam sinned. Thus sin came in this world and along with sin death entered in our life. Initially God's plan was not that a man should die. And for that in order to be away from death God had warned Adam not eat the forbidden fruit. But Satan who was God's enemy could not bear to see Adam having fellowship with his Creator. He deceived Eve and lured her to eat that fruit and also succeeded in deceiven even Adam. Thus Satan succeeded in inbibing his nature in man. And what is that nature? Blaming others. When God saw that both Adam and Eve are hiding,he questioned Adam being the head of the first family as to why they are hiding and Adam replied that he was naked. Till then Adam was not knowing nor Eve that they are naked. Who made them naked? Satan is the answer. Satan not only induced his nature in man but also robbed him of his position with God. Now Adam had no relation with his Creator. It was broken not by God but by Adam by disobeying God. God had given him his own glory but Satan robbed that glory and made Adam poor having no shelter, no clothes nor food. So man became not only poor but beggar.
Secondly man started blaming others for his position instead of blaming himself. When God asked Adam whether he ate that forbidden fruit. And what was his answer? Adam blamed Eve. And when God asked Eve in return she blamed Satan. Right from that day we blame each other for our failures, problems and what not. And now the main question is as to why God is not answering my prayers? Instead of finding reason for, we blame God. We need to do little introspection and we will definately find that we are to be blamed and not God. By committing sin man broke the covenent. So man has to step forward towards God and say sorry for the breach he committed. Instead for finding fault with God man has to take initiative and come back to God and repent and ask God to forgive and be reconciled. But God's nature is such that he loved the world(Man) that he gave his only begotten Son and sent him in this world to die on the cross for our sin. And unless we acknowledge and accept his sacrifice we will not be forgiven. By saying Jesus died for our sins will not do but each sinner has to acknowledge and accept him as his or her Saviour. In the gospel of Mathew chapter 4 and verse 17 Jesus says " Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." If everyone repents and commits his or her life to the real God that is Jesus, each one will be forgiven and be reconciled to God and become free from sin. Why I say Jesus is real God because he is the only one who is alive. For there is no other god who can claim that he is alive except Jesus. Jesus is same yesterday today and forever. Hallelujah. So my dear friends let us not blame and say why God is not answering my prayers but instead let us come back to God and repent. So that let our compassionate and loving God forgive us and accept us to be his rightful children. Will you do that? If so please say the prayer which is given in my earlier letter. Let us do our part and allow God to do his part. Hallelujah.

Hi.Ivan
by Sebastian D'Souza on 10th Mar, 2009
Dear Ivan,
Christian greetings. I was expecting few lines from you all these days. But you seems to be not in mood to reply to our letters.
May I ask you something? Suppose in the middle of night your son or daughter gets sick and there is no one in the house to go and call the doctor. And you, out of desperation knock at neighbor's house. Without wasting a minute the good neighbor goes and brings the doctor at that odd hour. And because of the neighbor your son gets proper treatment at proper time and your son or daughter gets well. Won't you say thank you to that good Samaritan? Or do you keep quiet and close the door as soon as the doctor goes without saying a word to that neighbor?
You say that somebody referred this website to you for your problem and you asked a good question as to why God does not answer. And the administrator gave you right answer and other members gave their testimonies to encourage and strengthen you and also guided you,so that you may follow and receive blessings from God. But almost a month passed no comments,no reaction from you. Don't you think that you are obligated to do that? We the members of this guardian angel family do not expect anything but just few words saying thank you. Many us make the same mistake and take people for granted. These are small things but they are very important.
Because of may be wrong teachings or may be because of ignorance, people take Jesus for granted and even forget to say thank you for dieing on the cross for their sins. People believe in Jesus and many a times I have heard them saying that Jesus has died for their sins. But seldom they know that they should say to Jesus. " Lord Jesus thank you for dieing on the cross for my (and not for ours) sins." Instead people say,yes he died for our sins. Jesus died for our sins, no doubt about it,but each one has to say, "Jesus thank you for dieing on the cross for my sins." Personal expression of gratitude is a must.God the Father is overwhelmed when we express such words about his Son Jesus Christ. And by the way who has missed the heavenly blessings? Those who have not expressed this personal confession. They have not only missed heavenly blessings but they have missed the great gift of Salvation, that is the gift of etenal life.
Dear Ivan are you with me? please do not misunderstand me. I am here not to expect anything or to even judge but to help and assist people in knowing God and to serve God. Some people agree what I write and some do not, but I keep my eyes fixed on God and his mission. Hallelujah. Bye.
