Here, in a short span of time, the world has witnessed two plane crashes in New York state with vastly different outcomes. In that earlier plane crash there was no loss of life. Now we have witnessed another plane crash in which there were no survivors.

What does this signify?

Let’s look at the two separate plane crashes.  Flight 1549 at Hudson River  had both engines failed during bird impacts. What makes this special? It was a landing in an residential area, it was a plane landing without the assitance of jet-thrust, and it was a landing on water that didn’t result in a roll or sheared wing, allowing the passengers to escape.  Statistically, airplanes which lose both engines don’t land in such a perfect fashion, so that’s statistically low. Is it miraculous? There was an intelligence at work in the safe landing, sure (Captain Chesley Sullenberger?).  Or was it God directly landing the plane?

Now let’s examine Continental Airlines Flight 3407  over Buffalo. According to the details of the flight, the plane experienced ice on the wings. The controls respond slowly, meaning the pilot can overcorrect or undercorrect much easier, which seems to be the case here. But  the pilot lost altitude too fast to correct and the plane flight ended in tragedy. The news on the plane crash in Buffalo says it went into a steep nosedive.
CLARENCE CENTER, New York (CNN) -- A commuter airliner whose crash late Thursday killed 50 people was in such a sharp nosedive when it hurtled into a residential area that only one house was damaged, local authorities said Saturday...

Was there a lack of guiding supernatural intelligence here? I starting thinking, Lord what are You trying to say with these 2 events?

The first plane crash was a parable of God saving a chosen people who are drawn from the waters of humanity. What was depicted in the US Airways crash in the Hudson River was that in a day of judgment,  God will deliver His people through it all. They will emerge safely, but will escape with only the clothes on their backs. All possessions of this world will be left behind in a day of calamity, yet there will be great rejoicing that their lives were spared.

In Isaiah 58 the Lord tells His people that if they turn from their wicked ways and do good, their darkness will be as the noonday sun and He will make them like a watered garden. The Lord doesn't say here I will make you like a watered garden and then you will do good, He says if you do good I will make you like a watered garden!

As I thought on this first great sign, and compared it to that which has just occurred in this second plane crash, the following Scripture came to mind

I Peter 4:17-18
For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner who does not turn to God ?

Peter then continues with the thought, “What will be the outcome of those who do not obey the gospel of God? What will become of the godless man and the sinner?” The answer is given in the event now witnessed in Buffalo. Those who do not obey the gospel, the godless and the sinners, will all perish.

Do not think that those involved in the crash in the Hudson River, or those involved in the crash in Buffalo, were any more righteous or unrighteous than other people. Christ expressed the same sentiment when His disciples told Him about a tragedy that occurred in Israel.

Luke 13:1-9
Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And He answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered this fate? I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

And He began telling this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it, and did not find any. And he said to the vineyard-keeper, 'Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?' And he answered and said to him, 'Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.'"

The parable of the fig tree serves as a parallel lesson to the tragedies Christ had been discussing with His disciples. Trees represent peoples and nations, and God has a right to expect fruit from those whom He has created. The fruit that God seeks is righteousness and justice. God will bear long with a people, but if He continues to come to them year after year, having provided them with every necessary thing to bear this precious fruit, and He finds none, He will in anger ask the question, “For what reason do you even take up space upon the earth if you refuse to bring forth fruit to satisfy Me?”

How can a person or nation expect to escape judgment?

Christ not only spoke of this matter in a parable, He gave His disciples a live demonstration of what He will do to those who do not produce the fruit He seeks.

Mark 11:12-14
And on the next day, when they had departed from Bethany, He became hungry. And seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And He answered and said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again!" And His disciples were listening... And as they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. And being reminded, Peter said to Him, "Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which You cursed has withered."

Why were both the plane crashes that accured had to be in New York state itself?

The people of America have been prosperous for so long; they have attained the status of the world’s greatest power; they have dictated to the nations what they will do and will not do; they have grown fat with prosperity, ease and abundance, until they have become arrogant even against God. This proud people and nation who has known staggering blessing, wealth, freedom and has had the gospel freely presented to them, have scorned God’s cry for righteousness.

America sits as a proud harlot, clothed in purple and adorned with gold and jewels. She says “I am a queen and I will never know mourning,” but God will not be mocked.

Revelation 18:8-20
"For this reason in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong. And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying,' Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more; cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and bronze and iron and marble, and cinnamon and spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and slaves and human lives. And the fruit you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them. The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, saying,' Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls; for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!' And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance, and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying,' What city is like the great city?' And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!' Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her."

Because that nation has not produced the fruit God has longed for, He will judge her by removing all the fruit that she desires. The wealth, ease, prosperity and comfort America craves will be stripped from her. No longer will these things be found in the land. Through it all, the righteous will be saved, but the godless man and the sinner will perish.

The Spirit has been testifying through a myriad of signs that judgment is at the door.

Year after year, God has borne patiently with a wicked people / nation that refuses to bear the fruit of righteousness. He has watched as transgression has increased. He has sent forth judgments to provoke people / nation to bring forth the fruit He demands, but some has refused. The judgment will come as swiftly as the crash of the Continental Airlines flight over Buffalo. There was not even time to broadcast a distress call. The last communication was a calm repetition of the air traffic controller’s instruction about which runway to land upon.

After the Hudson River crash, all landing safe measures were controlled and  the people have been assured of good safety. Yet in one moment these proved to be false. A gradual descent suddenly became an uncontrollable free fall.

This is what will happen when we refuse God. There will be no actions possible to prevent a devastating crash. The one thing that would have saved the people and the nation has been rejected. Righteousness has been despised.

People of God who find their peace (and put their trust) in God alone and not in their outward circumstances WILL BE SAVED. The view of the green foliage and of the blue water below represents vision for the blessings of God that will come to those who actually survive (in heart) this calamitous "crash."

Oh sure, many do not want to hear about such things, for "Peace and safety!" is all that their itching ears want to hear right now! But the scriptures are clear that sudden destruction will come upon such  and these then shall be overwhelmed with fear to the extent that their hearts may even fail them.

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that things like this should overtake you like a thief, for you are all sons of light and sons of day! So let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober -- fully prepared for whatever may come our way. [Quote]

-What the Lord is saying for the church now is turn from your wicked ways such as pointing fingers, speaking wickedness, bickering, & gossip (v. 9), its time to step out in faith and do the good we are called to do such as feed the hungry, satisfy the afflicted soul, loose the bonds of wickedness, and lead people to righteousness and
He will show up!

The Lord is saying if you step out on faith I will show up! If you step out in faith I will make you like a water garden bearing much good fruit. Rivers of living water will flow from you and spring up into life not only for you but for those around you!

 IT HAS ALREADY STARTED!!!

"And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. (Mark 16:20)."

The Lord is raising up people everywhere, from every age group, from every background, who are willing to step out on faith! Like the early church, He is confirming the word through accompanying signs!

It's only February but so far this year has been filled with testimony after testimony about how He is using nameless faceless people you never heard of to witness, heal, and deliver! We are living in an amazing time!

 DON'T MISS IT!!!

The Lord is moving, don't miss it! Don't let the enemy tell you or use others to tell you that you are being prideful, that you are not good enough, that you're too young or old, or you didn't go to Bible school, etc! They did the same thing to David before he was used by God to slay the giant (1 Samuel 17:28-53)!

"26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD (1 Corinthians 1:26-31)."

Wondering!?!
by Bruno Daniel on 20th Feb, 2009
Just wondering that all the passengers and crew on Continental Airlines Flight 3407 were sinners to perish such a miserable way or is it tht it was just a mere accident or a man-made error.

Airline crashes

My daughter is a flight Attendant with Us Air. She believes that God was the co-pilot on the landing in the river and that he flies with her on all flights.

Signifies only that disasters occur randomly to good and bad people
by Brian Pritchard on 20th Feb, 2009
The survival of all the occupants on one plane and the death of all those on the other signifies only that disasters occur randomly to good and bad people, and to believers and non-believers alike.

If God is all-knowing then he already knows what the people listed in this message want, so praying for them is futile.

There is a supernatural power who can defy the laws of matter as we know them and who created life and the universe. However, he does not care about this world or its inhabitants. Why, otherwise would he permit famines, droughts, earthquakes, hurricanes etc. Maybe you could make an argument that eternal paradise is waiting for us at the end of our suffering, but how do you explain the food chain? Why are beautiful innocent animals created only to lead short lives and, in most cases, die painful violent deaths?

I know that you won't agree with me. However, you sent me your unsolicited religious opinions so I'm sure that you won't mind if I send you mine.

God is Just.
by Sebastian D'Souza on 21st Feb, 2009
Dear Readers,
Christian greetings. God is just. People may agree or not. But it is the truth. Bible says " My thoughts are higher than your thoughts, neither are your ways are my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.(Isaiah 8-9) Sometimes we don't understand as to why God acts in such a way. But if one believes that God is just then one has also to know that whatever he does is good and just.I f you read from bible Romans 8:28 it says " And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." So my dear friends, we have to accept whatever God does. Worldly people may not accept but God's people will whole heartedly accept. And that is the difference between these two types of people. God's people have the mind of Christ as the bible says in I Corinthians 2:16 " For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him? But we(Godly people are those who are called by God) have the mind of Christ." So it is amply clear that we will not understand his thoughts or his ways. So it is useless to break one's head but accept the fact and just believe that God is just. And it is useless to pray for the dead people. Because it does not help to either party. Some people preach and also they insist that we should pray for dead people. But the bible does not teach such thing. That is man's teachings and not of God. Once a person dies he or she is cut off from the world and has to face the judgment. " Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.(Hebrews 9:27) What Mr.Brian Pritchard says is correct. Praying for the dead is futile.

As far as Revelation 18:8-20 is concerned is not referring America as harlot but the city of Rome. For that we have to read Revelation 17:1-9 " One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me(John) Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters. with her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries. Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scrlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She had golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND ABOMINATIOS OF THE EARTH. I saw the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony of Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. Then the angel said to me: "Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns. The beast, which you saw, once was,now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to the destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have to been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was,now is not,and yet to come. This calls for a mind of wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits." My dear friends we have to apply our mind and read carefully chapter 17 and 18 of Revelation. Both the chapters are cocerning the city of Rome. In chapter 17 verse 9 says the seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. Here the woman is reffered as a city. And which city is situated on seven hills? It is Rome. Rome is situated on seven hills. Rome is the city which ruled almost all over Europe and some part of Asia in ancient times. Rome is called modern Babylon.Ancient Babylon had all the abominable things such as images, big statues, astaras, pillars and what not. Babylon which is Rome city is called the great prostitute.Even today one will see all the abominable things in Rome such as big statues,Pillars, images.and for this reason Rome is compared to the ancient Babylon. The punishment written in chapter 17 and 18 is for the city of Rome. And the beast which is mentioned is Antichrist. Antichrist is going to come from one of the ten countries of Europe. Ten horns are reffered as ten countries.Roman Empire killed many saints who bore testimony of Jesus. Some were hanged, where as some were burnt alive. Some were even cut with hacksaw. And the great prostitute is holding that cup which is full of the blood of the saints. And for that the prostitute is going to be punished which is written in chapter 17 and 18 of revelation. One rquires wisdom to understand this mystery. My dear friends ask God and he is the one who can give you all the wisdom. He gave to Soloman so also he will give you.Ask and you will be given. Seek and you will find.God is not far. He is near. In Isaiah 55:6 God says " Seek the Lord while he may be found: call on him while he is near. " It is upto each one to think and get saved.Get out of that city of Rome if you are in that city. Else you will also be punished. In II Corinthians it is written in Chater 6 verse 17-18 "Therefore come out from them and be seperate. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.I will be a Father to you,and you will be sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." He says touch no unclean thing. If you are touching anything which is abominable to God try to avoid. Take this warning and be away from such unclean thing. Statues and images are abominable to God. He says that it is unclean and don't touch.Obey God and do everything which pleases him. Accept him, obey him, follow him, praise and worship him. He also says that you will be his sons and daughters. So do it today. In order to accept Jesus as your Saviour and allowing him to come in your heart please say this prayer. "Lord Jesus I believe that I am a sinner. I also believe that you died for my sins. Lord Jesus forgive my sins and cleanse my heart with your precious blood and make me worthy to be your child. Lord Jesus I thank you for forgivig my sins and also accepting me as your child. Lord Jesus give me your Spirit which you have promised in your word. Lord Jesus thank you for givig me the Holy spirit. I commit my life in your safe hands and promise to read your word everyday ad apply your teachings to my life. Loving Father I praise and worship you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

WEIRD ANALOGY
by Francisco Afonso on 23rd Feb, 2009
Too much is being read into the two plane crashes which coincidentally happened in New York within a short space of time.In fact so much has been read that many are illogically assuming that it portends what God will do on judgement day.

The case is about two plane mishaps having different survival outcomes. In one case the survivors are saved, in the other they are not. The assumption is made that God saved the occupants of one plane and got rid of the occupants of the other. It is also presumed that the passengers in the first plane were more righteous than those in the other plane and therefore God saved them. I am not sure whether the Hudson plane had all righteous passengers or whether the Continental plane was occupied by all wicked people. I don't think airlines do a moral check up of their passengers. On an average in any calamity, natural or otherwise, there is a very high probability that those affected belong to both classes--the righteous and the wicked. And we can be certain that there were both good and bad people in both the planes. However, the reasoning here is that God decides to keep one aircraft afloat and lead the other to its downfall.

Did all the people in the Hudson plane turn from their wicked ways and did all those in Continental continue with theirs? We are not sure. Yet is makes no sense for God to eliminate the good people with the bad. Nor does it make sense for God to save the bad with the good.
Then there is a reference to a biblical passage in which some Galileans were killed by the Romans. There is no indication of where they stood on a moral scale here. But here also God is portrayed as getting rid of the good apples in the cart along with the bad.Further God is said to use this as a lesson for repentance. I fail to see how getting rid of somebody good conveys a stern warning for someone wicked to change his or her ways. Can anyone make sense of this?
And what's being good or being sinful interpreted to mean here? It isn't just doing something ethically right or doing something humane. Primarily according to this website and according to much of church doctrine it means obeying the gospel. So the implication here is that all those people who have never read the gospel or have accepted it, leave alone following it, are godless and sinners. Which means that your friendly Hindu neighbour who helped take care of your son when he was sick is going to hell just because he or she either did not read the gospel or even if they did, don't believe in it. Its as ridiculous as Islamic nonsense that Catholics accuse Muslims of. It's just plain ridiculous. Why should you want to burn someone who has done a good act merely because he or she does not follow your creed? How would you feel if a Parsi said you will burn in hell for not following Zoroastrianism. It's the same how someone else would feel if you told him or her that a fire in hell awaits those who do not embrace Christianity. This is nothing but sheer bigotry.

The problem with a vast majority of Christians is that they don't think They accuse others of having unreasonable religious views. But theirs are as dogmatic as the rest Likewise they never question. It is just blind acceptance. Blind acceptance because they believe what the Pope says is right or what the Bible says is true.

All of a sudden the US and Rome are portayed as wicked places. But then which place in the world is really good? If you think the Catholic places are exemplars of virtue, think twice. The ground realities are far worse. Today's world problems are not America's alone. Global warming is not country specific. The recession is not either. So though the Revelation sounds like some grandiose prediction, Manila stands as good a chance of perishing as does Rome , referred to as a Babylonian whore. I have nothing for Philippines or against Italy. My point is that when you get too fundamentalistic you do not apply proper thinking yardsticks. The Revelation story was probably written by some disgruntled Jews and neo Christians in their hatred for the Roman Empire to whom they were subject. Every story in the Bible concerning the Romans has a historical context.

To show you how depraved people can be in using proper thinking yardsticks let me ask if anyone finds anything odd in the passage where a hungry Jesus curses a fruitless fig tree. Let me reproduce it here:
Mark 11:12-14
And on the next day, when they had departed from Bethany, He became hungry. And seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And He answered and said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again!" And His disciples were listening... And as they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. And being reminded, Peter said to Him, "Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which You cursed has withered."

Jesus curses a fig tree because it did not bear fruit. But it wasn't the fault of the poor fig tree if it didn't have fruit at that time. Remember it was not yet the season for figs. There appears no sound reason why Jesus should have cursed that tree to its death. Does anyone of you fell your mango trees if they don't produce fruit in October? It would be as preposterous as spanking your one month old child because he or she cannot walk at that time.

Agreed God is not mocked. God can never be mocked. People mock themselves by portraying God according to their silly whims and fancies. And vast sections of people think their portrayal alone is a true image of God. This goes for non-Christians too.

I know that there will be lots of readers here who will be offended by what Ive said here. They will issue fatwa like edicts and claim I have been influenced by evil forces and therefore will burn in hell. Some will quote long passages of the Bible to buttress their claims. However, quoting long passages from any religious texts, be it the Bible or Koran or anything else, does not make a claim about God valid. Courts do not arrive at verdicts based on lengthy passages but on the crux of arguments.

To those who adopt these petty lines of thinking and resorting to ad hominem arguments , I just want to say I have nothing against any God or Jesus or any other religious being but against how they are portrayed in poor light. Remember this is the "Question Everything" age.

God bless you all,

Francisco Afonso
